It was good to meet up through the day with other people doing the same thing (and realising that I was not the only one struggling up the hills). Elayne appeared at intervals with food, water and a smile which was very welcome. Ready for a good nights sleep now.
Alan - We were told before the trip to avoi d the coast road in Cornwall. Do I agree? Yes, but also definitely not. If your goal is just to reach the end then yes. If on the other hand you want to experience Britain as you pass through, then definitely not. The hills are horrible, but the views are spectacular and by the end of the trip (if not now) I'm sure I'll remember the views more than the hills (I hope).
Comedy Moment 1: Me leading a peloton of Super Bikes up a narrow winding hill. I didn't realise super bikes could go that slow. (Even funnier, Matt almost fell off laughing)
Comedy Moment 2: Me taking three attempts to climb the first Hill out of St Ives. Matt was looking on from the top. First attempt, stopped and then couldn't restart (wrong gear). Second attempt missed the pedal three times and came to a halt. Third attempt went all the way to the bottom, round the corner to a flat bit and then did it. Sad or what.
Finally, we've had the first crash of the trip. I won't say who or what, but it wasn't my fault.
BB Update: Breakfast at the Cornerways was great. Good ingredients cooked well. Go to St Ives and check it out. (Tim the owner also gave us £20 sponsorship - fantastic)
